|An early design for the Los Castillo taller, I don't know what one would call this piece if not iconic and classic. In my mind, the "fern" motif is closely associated with vintage Mexican clamper bracelets. It has been produced for decades due to its popularity and demand and can be found with all kinds of signatures or simple "generic" Deco hallmarks. Yet when you experience the substantial presence of the Los Castillo rendition, when you hold it in your hands and feel the weight, when you notice the depth of the repousse and the dramatic oxidation in the recesses - only then do you fully understand why all "fern" clampers are not equal... The example at hand has an inner circumference of 6 3/8" (yet adjustable upwards due to its hinged construction) and its width varies between a stupendous 3 7/8" in the front and 1 1/8" at its narrowest, on either side of the hinge. It weighs a very generous 97.2 grams and is fully hallmarked with the taller's name as well as "HECHO EN MEXICO", des. no 238 and and early, raised Eagle 15 assay mark. Dating in the 1950s and in excellent vintage condition with no flaws noted, fantastic patina and a very tight, snappy hinge.|
