RARE E BYRNE LIVINGSTON Silver MACHINE AGE BROOCH
A silversmith whose work is not frequently encountered, E. Byrne Livingston is among the American artists who contributed to the creation of the country's unique Machine Age aesthetic. A New Yorker, she worked primarily in the 1930s and 1940s and some of her creations are among the holdings of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The brooch presented here is characteristic of its period and the specific artistic climate within which it was created. While curving the angularity of Deco lines, it exhibits early modernist tendencies with its minimalism and its atom-like form. Measuring 1 1/2" by 1 1/4", it weighs 14.5 grams. It dates in the mid- to later 1930s and is signed with the artist's name as well as "STERLING". In excellent vintage condition and a rare to find artistic treasure from the US Machine Age movement.
