 SOLD - Thank you!
I am assuming that Barrera must have been an early Mexico City maestro since most of his work that I have had is in the style closely associate with that city and Matilde Poulat's creations as well. I believe that his jewelry is of excellent quality, his repoussage comfortable and very confident at the same time, and the finishing always impeccable. The figural brooch I am presenting here illustrates the point I am trying to make in the best possible way - just notice the degree of relief in the raised pre-Colombian figure, the details in the delineation of the body and the different depths of the repousse in the flower. A museum quality example and a brooch that will become an anchor piece in your jewelry box. It measures 2 1/2" tall by 1 7/8" wide and weighs 29.9 grams. It is signed with maker's name in impressed italic capitals as well as "MADE MEXICO STERLING" and dates in the 1920s-early 1940s period. It is in excellent vintage condition with no flaws noted, very good weight and fantastic patina.
