Based on Avenida Juarez in Mexico City, Casa Prieto is one of those talleres that we don't know much about but their jewelry, early and bold, can be stunning. The brooch at hand, big and beautifully crafted in a leaf-and-berry design, is perfect for the winter when bulky clothing requires equally impressive accessories. Measuring 4 1/8" by 1 7/8", it is signed in early raised letters with partial maker's name as well as "AVE JUAREZ 40" and "MEXICO D.F.", tests as silver and is guaranteed to be of sterling quality. Dating in the 1930s-40s and in excellent vintage condition, with eye-catching size, bold repoussage, a nice polished agate cab and great patina.
