19thc American blown glass stove pipe hat c1880
Large nineteenth century clear blown glass stove pipe top hat. Ground pontil base. Perfect condition. 11.75" L x 9" W x 6.75" H. Glass hats were almost as useful as they were decorative. Glass hats were blown, blown-molded, blown-three-mold, and pressed. The top hats were made in four sizes. The smallest size was an individual salt dish. The second size, about 3 inches tall, was a toothpick or match-holder; it makes an excellent container for cigarettes today. The third size, between 4 and 6 inches tall, was a spoon holder, the largest and rarest, 6 inches or more high, was used to hold celery at the table. The 3-inch size or reproductions of it are most likely to be found today. Shipping extra. Connecticut residents and buyers picking up in Connecticut add 6.35% state sales tax. Buyers outside the USA are responsible for any taxes, tariffs or customs that might apply. *** If you wish to see examples of similar items we have sold and/or appraised please go to our affiliate site and click the Archives / Homepage logo ***
