A painting in gouache on paper depicting Krishna as a seven year old boy in dancing costume. In this form he is known as Shri Nathji. This distinct tradition emanates from Nathadwara in Rajasthan and these paintings were probably intended for domestic shrines. 19th century.

Gouache and metallic pigments on paper. The grey scarf is silver pigment, now tarnished. A very subtle effect is the decoration in grey on the black ground, seen clearly only under a strong light...

An oval Thewa pendant from Rajasthan in northern India. Thewa is the technique invented around 400 years ago where filigree gold designs are fused onto a coloured glass ground, then backed with silver foil. This pendant depicts prey being attacked in what looks like a palace garden. The work is very fine and I have had to show the photographs oversize to show the detail...

A NORTH INDIAN BRONZE HUQQA IN THE FORM OF A MANGO, 18TH ~ 19TH CENTURY.

It is believed that these small water pipes were made to be used by ladies and of course the diminutive size meant that they were easily portable. The mango shape fits nicely in the hand. The bronze is darker in tone than my photographs suggest.

Approximately 5.3/8 inches (13.7 cm) high. Overall light wear. Although the casting is substantial one oval panel has been slightly depressed...
