An old Nanban hanging flower vase, kakéhana, in its original inscribed box. The vase is in fine undamaged condition and has a good old patina. The inscription literally translates as “Nanban hanging flower vase”. The applied decoration is perhaps a depiction of a Buddhist rosary. 19th century.

A Japanese carved bamboo sake ewer, tokkuri. The pouring spout is a cunning extension of the slim handle, it has a simple stopper. The bung for the filling hole is in the form of a whistle. It is not drilled through so cannot be blown in the usual way but the end is shaped so that a shrill note can be produced when blown across. The top is lacquered red and the top rim ochre. A Chinese Yixing stoneware incense burner in the form of Budai, laughing as usual, grasping a small pile of cash. The stoneware has been attractively enameled with flowers and a Shou medallion decorates his back. The base has an impressed maker’s mark. 19th century.

The incense burner is in two parts, Budai sits on a large cushion, this base features a pierced disc for the insertion of joss sticks.

Approximately 15.5 cm high. From the exterior the burner is in perfect condition...

A Chinese grey white jade plaque deeply carved with a dragon and flaming pearl, a bat and magic clouds. This plaque was once part of a set which adorned a belt as can be deduced by the holes and thread channels seen on the back. Yuan or Ming dynasty.

The jade is nicely worn on the front. The rear has a disturbed patina which I suspect might be a result of burial...

A super Chinese pale green and russet jade carving of a mythical beast, 18th century.

Carved as a recumbent horned mythical beast clutching a spray of lingzhi in its mouth, the stone of an even pale green tone with some russet staining to the leaf and the lingzhi head.

This jade was included in the Bonhams, London auction #21623, lot 545.

A Chinese pale green and russet jade plaque, 17th ~ 18th century.

The rectangular pendant carved in high relief to one side with a cat clambering atop a rocky outcrop issuing leafy branches and lingzhi, a small bird alighting above, the reverse in shallow relief with a sinuous chilong above waves and below clouds, the stone of a pale green tone with mottled white and russet inclusions.

This jade was included in the Bonhams, London auction #21623, lot 559.
