A fine and large Chinese cloisonné jardiniere made towards the end of the 19th century. It is of robust construction using decent gauge metal and this has led to its remarkable preservation and also its heavy weight. A former owner has had the foresight to have a lacquered papier-mâché liner made which fits neatly to the interior...

A Japanese 'mixed metal' cylindrical caddy, Meiji. The body is copper sheet which is cleverly formed to impersonate a sewn seam as is often found on folk craft boxes made from wood veneer.

On the front of the caddy can be found a scene depicted in different metals of geese flying over the sea with Mt. Fuji in the background.

The caddy is unsigned.

Approximately 11 cm high, 9.1 cm diameter. Generally in good condition with only light wear from careful use...

A large Chinese famille rose 'mille fleur' vase, the base with a Qianlong mark. The decoration is to a high standard and the shape of the vase is typical Qianlong but it is my opinion that the vase dates from the 19th century. Apart from that it is in very poor condition and is in need of a good restorer. The damage was committed a very long time ago, the glue used to rebuild looks like an animal glue that would dissolve if soaked in water for a day or two...

A kendi with bags of personality. From Fujian in Southern China it represents a group of Chinese ceramics made for export to S.E.Asia in the 16th and early 17th centuries, known as 'Swatow.' Most of the surviving pieces seem to be dishes, in either underglaze blue or enameled. Kendi appear to be uncommon.

The kendi has sagged to one side during its time in the kiln. This accidental result marks it out from all other kendi and would make it much appreciated in Japan...

A very fine pair of Chinese famille rose porcelain potiches dating from the nineteenth century.

The shape of the jars is rather like 18th century Export sucriers but somewhat larger and decorated in a style more reminiscent of the Qianlong court. The enamels are thickly applied and bright. I have produced a set of photographs for each pot, the others can been seen as item #4309.

A very fine pair of large Chinese famille rose porcelain potiches dating from the nineteenth century.

This is the set of photographs for the jar and cover seen on the right of the first photograph. Photographs of the other vase can be found under item #4310.

Each pot has a hardwood stand, the rims of these have shrunk over the years and now the pots don't fit too well. They can be displayed safely and it wouldn't be too difficult to shave a little off the inside rims of the stands to...

A fine and unusual Japanese porcelain vase, Meiji, 19th century. The gourd-shaped vase is carefully made with evidence of fine paring of the unfired porcelain to perfect the form. The spiraling enamel decoration mimics the style of the Kyoto potters, in particular Ninsei. The vase is unsigned.

Approximately 34.3 cm high. Fine condition with only some rubbing of the gilding on the tassels.

Please study the photographs.
