A splendid carved and painted marble sculpture of the Hindu deity Vishnu in the form of the avatar Narasimha, half-lion, half-man. From northern India, mid 19th century.

“Lord Vishnu then emerged as a half lion, half man from the pillar which was neither inside the house nor outside, and the time was evening, neither night nor day. He then killed Hiranyakasyapa, the King of the Demons, thus saving the life of his ...click for details

~~~SOLD~~~
A rare painted and turquoise glazed Cizhou censer, Yuan or early Ming dynasty. The shape with tall collar and upstanding loop handles is typical of this early period. It appears to have had some use but remarkably it has survived in fine condition. The glaze is finely crazed all over and by using a glass one can see that the surface shows signs of genuine wear and even some slight iridescence in places.
A Straits Chinese silver gilt pendant, the filigree silver applied with a pair of filigree phoenix on one side and confronting dragons on the other. The complicated nature of the design creates problems with digital photography, my apologies for the inadequate pictures. 19th century
SOLD
This boldly decorated dish has been difficult to photograph, the extreme contrast between the thick blue enamel and the white enamel dragons has made it very difficult to show the fine scraffito scales on the dragon bodies, each scale drawn carefully rather than the cross-hatched lines found on later productions. The back is simply decorated with bats and within the foot-rim is a neatly drawn Daoguang (1821~1850) mark. ...click for details
The tall ovoid vase covered overall with a finely crackled green glaze. The mouth-rim is dressed with an iron-rich slip. Sadly, this vase has sustained some slight damage but still presents well and would make a good study piece.
7 inches high (17.7cm). There is a suggestion of a 1/2 inch glaze line on the mouth-rim, this runs down to a pinhole in the glaze and cannot be seen on the inside so it may just be a stres ...click for details
~~~SOLD~~~

A Chinese export Cadogan teapot, celadon glazed with a touch of underglaze copper-red. The teapot is formed as a peach with no apparent aperture for filling. It has to be upside down to be filled, the clever design enabling it to be turned the right way up without spilling the contents. 18th century.

This type of teapot is named in the West after Lord Cadogan who introduced this novelty form into British society in ...click for details
