A splendid wood carving of Guandi, the God of War richly gilded to the front and lacquered red on the back. Similar figures in gilded bronze are often dated to the late Ming, 16th ~ 17th century. The jade is flawless and is polished to a soft sheen. Upon close inspection one can see feint marks left by the turning tool. I have tried to show this in one of the photographs.
I don’t have the skill to date this ring accurately, my guess would be late 19th century.

Thickly and brightly enamelled with flowers and a butterfly. The edge is glazed with an iron-rich dressing known as Batavian brown, used to protect the fragile edge from chipping.
