This beautiful teapot must have a charmed life as it has survived approximately 225 years in near perfect condition. It is thinly made from a (must be) high-fired dark red pottery body covered overall with a lustrous dark brown or black ‘treacle’ glaze. The glaze does not cover the entire base and exposes the now stained body.

At least I assume this is from the 1930’s. It has a satin finish and is a very strong deep blue with wide abstract black lines. The base has the usual Bretby / Sunrise mark, Made in England and the pattern number 147B. Fired on three spurs, one spur on the England mark.
