A CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE VASE, YONGZHENG, 18TH CENTURY.

A small private kiln baluster vase with a typical tall foot unglazed inside, decorated with thickly applied famille rose enamels, though in this example no rose colour seems to have been used. The vase shows wear from use and I have refrained from washing it to show it better. Traces of an inscription in ink within the foot remain. ...click for details

A RARE CHINESE EXPORT PLATE, A VIEW OF CANTON, 18th CENTURY.

A beautifully painted octagonal dish from an 18th century export service. The scene is of the major trading port of Canton (present day Guangzhou) at the mouth of the Pearl River. Many of the buildings depicted can still be seen today. I have a suspicion that the plate was given a soft-paste slip before painting as it enables finer work. The attention to t ...click for details

A CHINESE EGG & SPINACH DISH, KANGXI, CIRCA 1700.

One of the great designs from the Kangxi period. The dish is firstly fired unglazed, apart from a clear glaze within the foot-rim, then the ‘biscuit’ body is decorated with low-fired enamels, manganese, green, yellow and clear, in the tortoiseshell-like pattern familiar to all collectors of classic Chinese ceramics. ...click for details

~~~SOLD~~~
A CHINESE BRINJAL BOWL, KANGXI (or earlier).
A Chinese porcelain bowl with flaring lip incised and decorated with enamels on the previously unglazed but once-fired biscuit body. These brinjal bowls have always been thought of as Kangxi wares but recent scholarship suggests a late Ming Tianqi (1621~1627) date for them. Within the foot-rim is an engraved former owner’s mark, dong (winter). ...click for details
