A JAPANESE SHINTO GONG, SIGNED SEI KYO YOSHIDA ZO

A large and heavy double-sided bronze gong in the form of a vertical drum, perhaps intended for use in a Shinto ceremony. Each part of the gong and stand has been made using the lost wax technique and this has led to the use of much fine decoration on the surface. The base plate is cast with the maker's name and origin, “Seikyo Yoshida Zo.” Yoshida made this in Kyoto.

A CHINESE BAMBOO OPIUM PIPE WITH JADE DAMPER, 19TH CENTURY.

A bamboo opium pipe with a jade damper. The jade makes it quite an unusual opium pipe, mostly the dampers are Yixing stoneware. The white metal fitting looks complete but must have been loose and a former owner has bound it with twine. This could be removed and a modern adhesive used to make a better fixing. The ends are ivory.

A GARNITURE OF CHINESE EXPORT VASES DECORATED ‘EN GRISAILLE’, QIANLONG, 18TH CENTURY.

The meiping form porcelain vases gently lobed with high shoulders and an ovoid cross-section. They are decorated in black enamel and gold, a palette better known by the French term, ‘en grisaille’...

A JAPANESE SETO STONEWARE SAKE BOTTLE, 19TH CENTURY.

The stoneware tokkuri covered overall with a clear ash glaze, the mouth with a dripping tenmoku glaze. 19th century.

Approximately 24 cm high, weighs 1550 gm. Perfect except for a shallow chip on the foot-rim, noted in the photographs.

The shaped dishes attractively painted with landscapes within a diaper border. Qianlong period.

Maximum dimensions approximately 12.5cm by 11cm. Some fritting and small chips, I show the worst in the photographs.

A CHINESE LAC BURGAUTE BOWL, 18TH CENTURY.

A very attractive lacquer bowl with alternating panels of landscapes and flowers executed in iridescent shell. The lobed bowl is lined with silvered copper as is the foot.

Approximately 10.2 cm diameter, 5 cm high. For this type of lacquer this bowl is in unusually good condition with only some surface age cracks...

A CHINESE BLANC DE CHINE LIBATION CUP, MID 17TH CENTURY.

A white Dehua porcelain cup, the design based upon rhinoceros horn cups of the late Ming and early Kangxi. These cups whilst not uncommon are harder to find in this larger size. The cup has a dragon and clouds above a tiger, a deer beneath a pine tree and a flying stork. The porcelain is translucent and is straw coloured where it pools. The fitted stand is included.

A CHINESE ENAMEL WINE CUP, QIANLONG, 18TH CENTURY.

A small cup , square shape with canted corners, decorated with a scholar and pupil. These tiny cups rarely survive in good condition, this one is very fine. Note that the green enamel applied within the foot-rim has curdled during the firing.

Approximately 4.6cm square, 3cm high.

A PAIR OF CHINESE CLOISONNE VASES, JIAQING, EARLY 19TH CENTURY.

A fine pair of cloisonne vases decorated with formal scrolling lotus. The heavy vases are thickly enamelled with bright colours on a light turquoise background. The wires dividing the colours are soldered in place and where the solder has come to the surface here and there it has been heavily gilded along with the wires...

A LARGE CHINESE CLOISONNE DISH, LATE 19TH CENTURY.

A large and heavy Chinese cloisonne dish with a central roundel depicting a rampant dragon, the wide border with scrolling lotus. The scrolling lotus is repeated on the back.

Approximately 31.5cm diameter. The dish weighs just over 1410 gm. In fine condition with only some slight wear from use...

A GOOD ISLAMIC BRONZE VASE, 19TH CENTURY OR EARLIER.

An elegant cast bronze vase sparingly engraved with scrolls and flowers. It looks as if the deeper engraving has been filled with black lacquer so perhaps this vase is from Kashmir. The vase is substantially cast and finished on a lathe before engraving.

Approximately 24.7cm high. Weight: 1070 gm. No dents or other damage...

A CHINESE PAKTONG BRUSH POT, CIRCA 1900.

A very elegant ribbed white brass brush pot, baitong. The walls of the pot are hollow but the piece is quite substantial and feels heavy for its size. Its elegance derives from the incurving walls, a difficult shape to manufacture. The base is signed with an impressed seal, Wen Chang Ge, perhaps the manufacturer.

Approximately 10cm high, 8.2cm base diameter. Weight: 459gm. Generally in good condition with no dents, just slight wear from use...
