A CHINESE RASPBERRY RED OVERLAY GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE. 19TH CENTURY.
The white glass bottle cased in a dark strawberry red glass and then ground away on the sides to leave vestigial handles, these too with further engraved decoration. A relatively simple bottle but with a striking colour. Inspection under a loupe shows the surface to have signs of light wear from use. The mouth is finished with a shallow concave surface. The stopper has lost its cork and spoon. It dates from the end of the 19th century.
7.1cm high. Excellent condition except for a tiny flake in the white glass of the top, not seen when the stopper is in place.
Please study the photographs.
