A North Indian steel Katar, known as a push or punch dagger. 19th century. This form of weapon is found only in India and was considered to be a high status weapon.

Constructed from steel in one piece it is a very strong weapon. The deeply fullered blade widens in depth towards the tip to strengthen it when used against chain mail or armour.

Just over 40cm length, the blade is 24cm (and sharp!) Good condition. It has an old armourer’s brazed repair to one arm. This might have been there from the beginning, to re-enforce a fault in the smithing.

Please study the photographs.
