Chinese Export Lion, KANGXI, C1700
A CHINESE EXPORT YELLOW GLAZED LION-DOG, KANGXI, 1662 1722.

The amusing lion standing foursquare on an artemesia leaf, thickly glazed with finely crazed deep yellow, his eyes picked out in manganese. This type of glaze is very difficult to control in the firing necessitating the use of firing supports, evidence of which can be seen underneath. This form with various slight differences seemed popular during Kangxi times and examples are known glazed in green and aubergine (manganese), sometimes with additional joss stick holders and also in blanc de chine.

4.1/2 long, 4.1/4 high. Perfect condition.
