A large carved and painted marble sculpture of Shiva and Parvati seated together on a dais supported by their child Ganesh, the elephant headed god, and Shiva’s protector Nandi, the bull. Shiva holds his trishula aloft and the holy river Ganga pours from the crown of his head. From northern India, mid 19th century.
8.1/8 inches (20.6cm) high, 5.1/2 inches (14cm) wide. For this genre the sculpture is in unusually good condition, most are found badly broken. In this example Shiva has lost the arm that rests on his knee, from the elbow down. One or two minor chips. I am based in the United Kingdom so charges made to credit cards are in GBP ( British Pounds ) and your credit card issuer automatically converts the charge to your own currency, that is, the currency of your country.
