An Elegant Surahi, India, 17th ~ 18th Century

A very elegant flask made with the repousse technique where the vessel is raised from sheet metal and decorated with punches to give high relief. A craft of considerable skill. Zebrowski illustrates several surahi with diagonal ridging which he describes as “a profoundly Indian kind of surface articulation for metal objects.” “where swirled surfaces attain a rare elegance.”

11.5/8 inches (30.2 cm) high. Fine original condition and now with a good patina.

I am based in the United Kingdom so charges made to credit cards are in GBP ( British Pounds ) and your credit card issuer automatically converts the charge to your own currency, that is, the currency of your country. Payment may also be made by direct bank transfer in GBP, or in cash, GBP or US$. International Money Orders or Cashiers’ Checks in GBP are also accepted. I am sorry but I cannot accept a cash transfer payment by Western Union, as I don’t have an office nearby.
