Good Arita Imari Reticulated Dish, Genroku, 17/18C
A RETICULATED PORCELAIN DISH, JAPANESE IMARI, LATE 17TH / EARLY 18TH CENTURY.

A very rare dish for this early period. The centre is decorated with typical Imari enamels in a most striking design set off by the reticulated border of interlaced circles. On the back can be found a very unusual border design of two gilt dragons. Within the foot-rim are four unevenly spaced spur marks. You will certainly have seen late 19th century versions of this form but they are not a patch on this Genroku period example.

9.3/16 inches (23.3 cm) diameter. A long time ago a section of the reticulation has broken out and has been repaired expertly with rivets. Apart from that the plate is very good with no wear, I would say that all of the gilding remains unworn.

If you would like to see the photographs in a larger format or file size, which is with less compression, or you would like pictures of a particular detail please let me know.

I am based in the United Kingdom so charges made to credit cards are in GBP ( British Pounds, £ ) and your credit card issuer automatically converts the charge to your own currency, that is, the currency of your country. Payment may also be made by direct bank transfer in GBP. International Money Orders or Cashiers’ Checks in GBP are also accepted. I am sorry but I cannot accept a cash transfer payment by Western Union, as I don’t have an office nearby.
