Kotiate: a Maori short club, much venerated. Superbly carved and in very fine condition. The colour is good and the patina entirely original and undisturbed. Between the lines on the pattern the background is carved into tiny diamond points, it must have taken endless patience. Just look at the photographs. It dates from the second half of the 19th century.

14.3/8” long, 6” wide and about 1.1/4” thick. There is one old, tiny, point of impact on one side, (please study the photographs), otherwise, fine and original.
