A CHINESE SHIWAN QUAIL, 20th CENTURY.
A stoneware model of a Quail produced in Guangdong Province in southern China. The work bears a strong resemblance to that of an artist called Ou Qian who died in 1958. His early works were never inscribed and so are difficult to positively identify but comparison can be made to an illustration of a pair of Quail in the exhibition catalogue “Shiwan Wares” Fung Ping Shan Museum, University of Hong Kong, 1979. The technique and treatment of the birds is identical. Approximately 5.3/8 inches (13.7 cm) high. The beak is chipped and one talon is missing from the bird’s right foot. Please study the photographs. I am based in the United Kingdom so charges made to credit cards are in GBP ( British Pounds ) and your credit card issuer automatically converts the charge to the currency of your country. Payment may also be made by direct bank transfer in GBP as long as all fees are paid by the sender.
