This large square box was probably used for the storage valuables, along with a number of clothing boxes and chests it would have formed part of a bride’s trousseau. Decorated with auspicious symbols, the character for long life occupies a central medallion on the lid and is surrounded with four cranes and heavenly peaches. Square reserves on each side of the box contain cranes beneath winter plum blossom tree, peonies with pheasant and bamboo tree with flying birds. The depiction of the individual motifs appears highly dynamic and realistic which due to fact that artisans often derived their inspiration from Joseon literati and folk paintings of animals and plants.
