| Pottery by the "three sisters", Ella Irving, Olive Cottier and Bernice Talbot is simple, elegant and historically significant. During the 1930's the Work Progress Administration established a boarding school on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota, and hired Bruce Doyle to operate a ceramics program for the students. The three sisters were among his students and reportedly continued producing Pine Ridge Pottery after the program ended at the school. The pottery closed in the 1980's. This lovely vase was made from the red clay indigenous to the area, decorated in cream-colored slip and displays the sgraffito design technique. Bernice specialized in casting, glazing and decorating the pottery while her sisters, Ella and Olive, threw the pots. A beautiful example of their ceramic work, this petite vase is in wonderful condition! Size: 3 1/4" H; Incised Mark with signature, B. Talbot. | ||
