| A sizeable Roman-Egyptian terracotta figure of a naked girl in a praying posture. Late 2nd – 3rd century AD. Made from a two-part mould, she sits with both hands raised, her legs bent and spread beneath her. She is wearing a necklace with three ring shape pendants, a single bracelet around her wrists, her hair is worn in an elaborate style. She probably represents a fertility goddess relating to female rites de passage. Left leg missing, otherwise intact. Remains of lime wash. Height: 16.2 cm. References: M. von Falck: Ägypten. Schätze aus dem Wüstensand (Wiesbaden 1996). László Török: Hellenistic and Roman Terracottas from Egypt (Rome 1995). Purchased on the German art market. | ||
