| Rather unusual and quite rare Mexican vintage figure. One of two wise men or possibly kings that once graced the space above a portal in a San Luis Potosi private devotional space (family chapel). Colonial Mexican or early 1900's piece. Made with carved wood then covered and fashioned with a technique known as estafata. This marvelous evocative piece still retains its original decorative surfaces of paint and gold leaf. Each of the two figures exudes a mystical, contemplative aura. In rougher condition with missing paint, gesso and signs of repair and damage throughout. Dimensions are 16" high, by 10" across with hands coming out from body 6". A quite rare and evocative example of vintage Mexican devotional art. | ||||||||||||
