| This is the second of two most unusual and compelling vintage Mexican devotional figures. This one appears to be a king or possibly one of the wise men. As with the companion figure, this individual graced the upper portal of a private devotional space (family chapel) in the area of San Luis Potosi. Ca. late 1800s or early 1900s. Made in most traditional and colonial manner of single piece of carved wood, estafata covering, and decorative embellishments of paint and gold leaf. Damage throughout and being sold in as is condition. Retains its original hand made nails. Evocative, contemplative and powerful figure. | ||||||||||
