| Vintage wooden nicho with Cristo figure. I purchased this from a gentleman who had traveled up with goods from Oaxaca to sell in a small tianguis outside of Mexico City. The wooden nicho retains its rich red paint ~ most likely created with a vegetable or insect base. It also reveals some of its original golden paint highlights. This Cristo appears to be created out of a cornstalk paste ~ which I find quite interesting because this traditional art form must have spread to the Oaxacan artist from Michoacan. The interior of the nicho is adorned with hand made flowers. A later added glass is present. In very good condition with fully functioning hinges. A lovely nicho and Santo. | ||||||||||||
