Of hexagonal form, with bowed sides and scalloped top, this bowl is constructed of birchbark, sweetgrass, porcupine quills, and cotton thread. Made by Mathilda Allison (Mathilda Marie Ramage), 1927-1990, it measures 6 3/4" diagonally, and 4" at the high points. The artist was known for such baskets, and The National Museum of the American Indian has a similar basket in their permanent collection, acquired in 1980...

Measuring 10" long, 2 3/4" high and roughly 4" wide, this pair of seals is beautifully rendered, sleek and modern, with lifelike posture and details.
