This collection of brass buttons, worn by early mail carriers, features a horse and rider in full gallop, with a mail sack behind the rider, inscribed "U.S.A. P.O.D". The first official uniforms for the Post Office were designated in 1868, and five buttons of this type were on the jacket. The design changed in 1893 to a walking mail carrier, holding a letter in his outstretched hand. This group contains 11 buttons with the early horse and rider, and one button with the walking mailman...

Well carved, with fine detailing and artful usage of coloration in stone, this figure depicts a bearded and seated figure with his arm around a young child standing upon a woven basket. Of nice size, the carving measures 4 7/8" high and is 3 1/4" wide. There are some marks on the base, which are shown in one of the photos. There is minor damage, on the nose of the larger figure and a small loss to the face of the other...

Of a highly unusual form, this Persian Qajar (Northern Iran) ceramic bowl is in the same shape as the more commonly known beggar bowls made from the pod of the Coco-de-Mer. Of high quality cut crystal, this candlestick features an interior tear drop in a hexagonal stem which continues into the top.
