Carved from one piece of old whalebone, with inlaid baleen for eyes and nostrils, this walrus is elegant in its simplicity and form. Measuring 6" long and 1 3/4" high, it is light in weight due to the porous nature of old whalebone. This is a fine example of Eskimo/Inuit carving, and it is strikingly well sculpted, clearly utilizing the natural shape of the bone, and creating the tusks out of the single piece of bone.

In bright yellow, blue, green, brown and turquoise, this large pitcher is shaped like a fish, the tail being part of the handle, with details in relief of the fish's fins and features. The interior is turquoise, nicely complementing the bright majolica-like colors on the outside. It measures 11 1/2" high, is approximately 10" wide from nose to tip of handle, and is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks...

From a good collection of soapstone and argillite Eskimo sculpture, this figure depicts a man in a parka, holding the head of a dog or wolf. In very glossy stone, either soapstone or argillite, it measures 6 1/2" high, 4" wide, and 2" deep. It has incised marks on the base, and a sticker from the Canadian Eskimo Art association, which guarantees items to be made by native artisans.

Of very dark soapstone, this carving depicts a hunter holding an animal that appears to be a seal. It measures 5" high, 2 3/4" wide and about 1 3/4" deep and has a satiny surface. The nose of the seal has a slight chip, visible in some of the photos. Very aesthetic in form, it is signed, with numbers also on the bottom. Part of a collection of Inuit sculpture, others listed in our catalog...

From our personal collection, this mask was likely created in the mid to early 20th century, as we have owned it 25 years, and the previous owner had also owned it that long. It purportedly was carved by a known maker, but we no longer have the documentation; there are two sets of carved initials on the interior of the mask,"JV" which is large and deeply cut, and a smaller impression of the initials "dc"...

This large water jug, from the Mexcala (also Mezcala) region in the state of Guerrero, Mexico, is a traditional form that has been utilized in the area since pre-hispanic times. It measures 16 1/4" high, and approximately 14 1/2' wide at the handles and is decorated with red and black pigments over a cream colored slip. The decoration in this vessel is particularly nice, with most of the body covered in well executed foliate design...
