| This carved and decorated food bowl is a beautiful and sleek form, incised with the geometric designs utilized by the Shipibo Indians of the Amazon River basin. It measures 31 1/8" long, by 8 3/4" wide, and 2 7/8" high. Of a red colored wood, it was obviously stained and then carved to reveal the lighter wood underneath. The carving is superb, and the form is balanced, as it sits perfectly even, with crisp geometric designs covering the entire surface. Such designs are common on Shipibo pottery, but there are few examples of wood decorated in the same manner. The wood and surface are very dry, though firm and without cracks, minor wear and scrapes to black surface. | ||
