Map of Hawaii 1826 - Ellis - Fisher/Jackson - London
From the book by William Ellis, "Narrative of a Tour through Hawaii, or Owhyhee; with Remarks on the History, Traditions, Manners, Customs and Language of the Inhabitants of the Sandwich Islands", published in London in 1826 by H. Fisher, Son and P. Jackson, engraved by J, Tyrer, this map is one of two fold out maps, along with eight engravings from this rare edition that are listed here; see catalog for other map and each individual engraving. Measuring 10 5/8" by 8 1/2", the map is a good dark impression, and shows the settlements, roads, mountains, bays, volcanoes, and missionary stations, and is noted to be "Improved from Vancouver's Survey". In good condition, it has fold lines, slight wear to edges, very light discoloration to page, and three perforations along the left side where it was once held in a notebook. One of the earliest maps of Hawaii, this is a wonderful image of Hawaii in the early years of contact.
