Hawaii Engraving 1826 "...the Volcano of Ki-rau-e-a.."
One of eight engravings from the 1826 book by William Ellis, "Narrative of a Tour through Hawaii, or Owhyhee...", published in London by Fisher/Jackson, engraved by W. Cook, this image is titled "The South West End of the Volcano of Ki-rau-e-a, in Hawaii". It measures 5 3/8" by 8 1/2" and is finely detailed with numerous smoking volcanoes in the background, being observed by three men in western dress, and one man in native dress. Print has minor losses along the lower edge, and some stains in the image, all visible in the photos. A wonderful scene of some of the early contacts in Hawaii.
