|The surface of this fine Cairoware vase is heavily decorated with detailed silver inlay, and the larger silver script is outlined in copper. Repeated designs, some in cartouche form, start at the top and circle the vase, and are interspersed with large Arabic script that is surrounded by additional foliate and arabesque designs. The lushness of the silver work is enhanced by the fine representation of flowers, leaves vines, birds, and abstracted forms, and the silver inlay is thick, heavy and often engraved with additional fine detail. The vase measures 9 3/4" by 5" at the most bulbous section, and is in very good condition. There are remnants of a very dark patina on some of the brass, and it was obviously partially cleaned at some time. This is an exceptional example of Islamic metal work, and one of the finer pieces of Cairoware that we have offered.|
