|This beautiful pair of bronzes are heavily decorated, with figural handles depicting mythical beasts, and cartouches with scenes of birds, flowers, and foliate elements in high relief. Measuring 12" high, approximately 8" wide, and weighing more than 6 1/2 pounds each, the pair are dramatic and artfully crafted. Unsigned, they are likely Japanese, but are very similar in design to Chinese bronzes of the era. In excellent condition, one with a repair to the bottom, as seen in photo of base. A rich, satiny, deep bronze patina is consistent over the surface, with only a few abrasions visible on the foot of one. The decorative rim at the lip of the vases is applied separately, and has a slight indentation on one side. The swallows, lotus blossoms, and peonies are traditional elements in Asian design, and the foo dogs or kirins below the bottom of each handle are classic elements that further enhance the overall design.|
