Pre-Columbian Double Vessel -MOCHE-Frog Effigy
Of double gourd form, this Moche effigy vessel features a frog seated upon a tapered base, with cream colored slip over terracotta, with line decoration delineating the bases and details on the frog (most of the line decoration is terracotta in color, but there are also remnants of a lighter cream color around the base, under the terracotta line). It measures 5 3/8" high, and 5 7/8" wide, the width of the vessel opening is 3 1/8". There are two chips to the lip of the bowl, and some glaze loss also near the lip, as shown in the photos, and usage wear to other areas. It does not stand well without assistance, so would need a stand for safe display. From a collection acquired before 1970.
