Very sleek and delicate, this nicely sculptured bronze finial depicts the head of a tiger, and is Chinese in origin, dating to the Zhou (Chou) dynasty. Including the base, it measures 3 1/4" high, and is 2 5/8" high without the base. With very dark, worn patina, the simplicity of the figure is quite elegant, and is lovely from all directions. The bottom of the finial is slightly hollowed, for attachment to a staff or implement. Though small in size, it is a fine early bronze, and represents the unparalleled artistry of classic Chinese arts.
