MAYA-HUBERT HARMON Brass/Amethyst Snake Necklace
Comprised of one half of the brass snake buckle originally designed by Hubert Harmon and made by Maya, this necklace features barrel shaped amethyst beads interspersed with small round beads, matching the amethyst stones in on the buckle. The brass pendant measures just under 6" and features a brass snake head with dangling loops that hold three fish. The bead section measures 19 1/2" and has a brass hook clasp. Good condition, with the remnants of old lacquer or vanish over the brass head, can be seen in close up photos. It is stamped "MAYA, Mexico" on the back. Maya created both brass and silver jewelry in Mexico from the late 1940's into the 1960's, and this design is attributed to Hubert Harmon, a designer who worked briefly in Mexico during the 1950's. Great looking, hangs beautifully, and is a nice reuse of the buckle form.
