|Of exceptionally large size (16" by 10 1/2" wide by 7" high), this beautiful Monteith or Jardiniere by the Marseilles factory of Veuve Perrin dates to the mid to late 18th century and is in very fine condition. Decorated in typical 18th century hues of magenta, rose, yellow, green, and pale blue on a creamy background, with gilding on the handles and top edge, it is both dramatic and rich in detail. The top is scalloped, and fluted from the lower sections of the scalloping, and the upper portions have additional fluting all round the top, extending two inches down into the body, creating a richer and more interesting form. There are two very slight hairlines from the top, and light discoloration along the scalloped top, both of which are minimal and could be easily cleaned. The gilding is intact, as is the detailed paint decoration, and it is signed with the VP conjoined monogram on the bottom. There is a fissure on the base, visible near the signature, and is visible on the inside also, but is clearly original to the piece, not an actual break. I have numerous additional photos, so please do not hesitate to ask to see specific details of this lovely and large French faience vessel.|
