|By known silversmith and jewelry designer Barbara E. Cook, this gorgeous sterling necklace is comprised of a heavy serpentine design chain, with a beautifully made pendant of sterling silver and lapis/aventurine mix. The pendant depicts a dragon, with looping tendrils, gold eyes, and winged arms holding the vivid stone set in sterling bevel and backing. Barbara lived and worked in Nepal in the 1990's, studying with the finest silversmiths, and utilized classic designs from the Himalayan region. Most of her works from this era were not signed with her "BEC" hallmark, and this piece is accompanied by the original card given when purchased in 1996 from her gallery in North Carolina. (photo of card included. On back of card is written "aventurine and lapis, mixed, 1996"). The fish hook clasp and the pendant are both stamped with 925 and sterling marks. Exceptional silverwork, fine design, and heavy weight (approximately 3 1/2 troy ounces), this necklace is a real treasure, a rare example by this wonderful designer.|
