Well carved, with fine detailing and artful usage of coloration in stone, this figure depicts a bearded and seated figure with his arm around a young child standing upon a woven basket. Of nice size, the carving measures 4 7/8" high and is 3 1/4" wide. There are some marks on the base, which are shown in one of the photos. There is minor damage, on the nose of the larger figure and a small loss to the face of the other. The back is enhanced with darker pigmentation and the robe is decorated with floral designs. It dates to the 19th century, and is possibly earlier.
