Wedgwood Black Basalt Horse/Birmingham Silver Pendant
Set in vermeil silver, with Birmingham hallmarks for sterling, this black basalt medallion features the "Horse Startled by Lion" black basalt Wedgwood plaque, this one slightly less detailed than original, and smaller. The pendant measures 1 1/4" x 1 1/8" and is in excellent condition, no breaks or losses, and the vermeil is also intact, with a soft gold luster. The date letter is not clear, but it is likely from the era 1900- 1920. While Wedgwood has made jasperware jewelry of all designs, the black basalt is unusual, and the this horse motif is somewhat rare. This is a very refined and delicate pendant, and could be worn with a vermeil or gold chain, or even a thin black cord or ribbon.
