An original map by Isaak Tirion of Amsterdam, 1754, entitled "Nieuwe Kaart Van het Westelykste Deel der Weereld, dienende tot aanwyzing van de Scheepstogten der Nederlanderen Naar West Indie. Volgens de Laatste Outdekkingen Te Amsterdam by Is. Tirion. 1754". The sheet measures 16" by 18 1/4" and the impression measures 14" by 14 3/8". The map shows all of the Western Hemisphere, a small section of Asia at the upper left corner, with Greenland, part of Europe and the Western coast of Africa, along with island groups in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Caribbean Seas. The map is in good condition, with multiple fold marks, some light foxing and stains, and the upper right corner is crimped and stained. There are two small pieces of clear tape on the back at the upper right and upper left corners, where it was attached to another sheet or mat at some time. On heavy wove paper, the map was never colored, and is a nice clear impression. Early maps of the western hemisphere are desirable, and like most, are always intriguing with interesting details and geographical oddities. When framed, the map will flatten out, and the crimped edges will not be visible.
