PERSIAN Glass Hookah/Huqqa Base ca 1865 Shah Portraits

Measuring 8 3/4" high, with a base diameter of 4 3/4", this hookah base is deep green glass, with painted enamel and gold decoration, surrounding five oval portraits of the Shah, Nasir Al-Din, who reigned from 1848 to 1896. The Shah wears a hat with a gold colored plume, and has numerous medals and decorations on his chest and around his neck. The glass is fairly thick, has bubbles visible, and shows considerable wear on the base. Good condition, some minor scrapes and losses to paint and gilding, with a chip on the lip and a chip on the bottom rim next to a surface air bubble.
