Pair Brass Angel Candlesticks LOS CASTILLO Taxco c 1950
From the workshop of Los Castillo in Taxco, Mexico, these brass angel candlesticks were designed by Salvador Teran, who was a renowned silversmith in Taxco, and a cousin of Antonio Castillo. Signed with the Los Castillo circular mark, they also are stamped "cobre artistico", with the initials AC, Taxco, Mexico, and handwrought. Cobre Artistico was primarily the work of Salvador Teran and existed from the late 1940's until 1955. Of heavy gauge brass (unlike later copies), they are weighted with sand, and show evidence of hand work, and have some slight variation in details. This pair is in fine condition, have been lacquered at some time, and the darker sections are where the lacquer has worn off and the brass has patinized. They measure 7 1/2" high, and are both fully marked.
