Humorous WC/Ink Illustration "Do Not Remove..." ca 1970

In watercolor and ink on heavy artist paperboard, this illustration is a wonderful and humorous version of the quandry faced by anyone reading the label on pillows and mattresses: "Do not remove under penalty of law". While the thuggish looking guy deigns to pull the label off, the two kids in the background look on in horror. With no signature, it is difficult to determine the artist who created it, but it is in the style of numerous cartoonists/illustrators from the mid 20th century, including Edward Sorel, whose works often depict famous or political characters. The New Yorker and Vanity Fair featured much art of this genre, and works from these publications have become classics. Unframed, it measures 12" by 10" and is in good condition, with no stains or fading.
