Bronze Fish on Granite Base - Charles Reussner ca 1930

Charles Reussner (French 1886-1961) was a sculptor known for his works that often exhibit the simple and elegant lines of Art Deco, with Cubist influences, and depict a variety of animal figures, usually birds and fish. The forms are sleek, often with well portrayed movement or stances, and his granite mounts are a trademark of his works. This sculpture has two swimming fish, upon a granite base measuring 7 1/4" x 4", and is 4 1/2" high. The tail of the smaller fish is stamped with his name (the R is lightly stamped and not as visible). With original patina, the sculpture has a heavy felt covering on the bottom, and is in excellent condition. Pleasing from all angles, it nicely conveys the form and movement of the fish.
