This two volume set by Betty Ring, the foremost authority on American Samplers, is a classic, and is referred to as the "bible" of American needlework. Published in 1993 by Alfred Knopf, it has 584 pages, with 623 images, 376 in color. Fully indexed, with extensive and scholarly text, the books are informative and delightful. The photos of textiles are clear and richly colored, with exceptional attention to details. In black slipcase with illustrations front and back, it measures 12" x 9 1/2" and is quite heavy. The books are bound in black cloth with red and gold on the spines, and color illustrations on the front of each. In excellent condition, with some wear and scrapes to slip cover, and a few minor scrapes to the back of one of the volumes; the interior is perfect, no crimped pages, stains, or wear.
For the collector, aficionado, or dealer of American samplers, embroidery, or textiles, there is no finer reference material.
