Titled "#16", this multi metal sculpture by Michael Perez was completed in 2012 and is signed on the base with name and date. It measures 12" high on a base measuring 9" x 5". Comprised of aluminum geometric shapes, stainless steel balls, and a bronze disc, with two panels of paint, it is interesting from all angles, with nice reflecting surfaces of light. Bio: Born in Brooklyn New York, Michael Perez grew up with an interest in mechanical objects, in how they worked, and was always interested in objects and their forms, from the variety of architectural structures and building construction in the city to autos, toys, and functional objects of all types. Drawn to the visual arts, he often visited the fine museums of the city, showing an early interest in modernist and abstract form, especially sculpture. With 35 years in the art and antique business, his eye was honed and focused on quality, artfulness, and form, from decorative and ethnographic arts to sculpture from all eras. The idea of creating some aspect of artistic expression had been forming for many years, and once begun, the sculptures continue to materialize, ever evolving and progressing. The first sculptures, created in 2009, were a natural extension of observing, handling, and dealing in the arts, and demonstrate his strong interest in abstracted forms, with metals of varying colors, textures, and shapes being the basis for most of his works. Each sculpture is one of a kind, carefully constructed and formed from a variety of metal and other materials, some over long periods of time, as they are often “lived with” before being finalized. Each sculpture is hand signed, and is comprised of parts that are often modified, painted, and may have original marks from manufacture or elsewhere. The surfaces reflect light in different ways, depending upon the light source, the surface of the sections, and are left in the natural condition from manufacture, usage, or modification.
