This set of nine volumes from the Americanist Studies, published by the Smithsonian, is part of 20 planned volumes, begun in 1978, and only 17 were completed. Edited by William C. Sturtevant, each volume covered a specific region or topic, and was edited and written by recognized experts in the particular area. This work documents information about all Indigenous peoples of the Americas north of Mesoamerica, including cultural and physical aspects of the people, language family, history, and prehistory. With many black and white illustrations, including maps, drawings, and photos, each volume illustrates clothing, artifacts, and specific aspects of every culture described.
